About Us

Vision

Technology influencing lives and livelihoods is built with scientific rigor and optimized for fair, equitable outcomes.

Mission

Learning Collider is bridging academia and product to build decision technology that drives social impact and market success.

Meet Learning Collider — a nonprofit research lab building AI that expands human opportunity.

We’re bridging academia and product to build and refine decision systems that measurably advance economic mobility and equitable outcomes for historically underrepresented and marginalized groups.

  • Fair and equitable technology is seldom the default. Even more seldom: instrumenting artificial intelligence to achieve social impact at scale.

The potential is massive. By aligning commonly misaligned assets and incentives, Learning Collider’s collaborative research model leads to decision technology systems that advance economic opportunity and upward mobility - not simply AI that “does-no-harm.”

    Learning Collider aligns

    • tech innovators + product leads with customer-facing platforms, deep sector knowledge, and access to deep, real-time data,

    • high-caliber researchers skilled in experimentation, complex data science, and AI, and

    • social-impact philanthropists and investors seeking evidence-based impact pathways.

When we align these assets and incentives, we uncover opportunities where decision technology systems can be built and refined to achieve social missions and business objectives.

  • Learning Collider builds mutually-beneficial partnerships between academia and product where this is promising potential to improve the economic mobility of underrepresented, disadvantaged, and/or low-income groups.

Learning Collider was ideated by economist Peter Bergman in 2020 and formally established as a project of the National Center for Civic Innovation in 2022.

Our partnerships have evolved and deepened, indicating strong demand for our lab’s collaborative approach and innovative model. Our research network has also expanded, indicating strong demand from academics to access real-world products and data.

We remain resolute that rigorously researched, evidence-backed technology is a path to social impact at scale.
